Recently, at Ear Science Centre, I met a 22-year-old young man who had been struggling with progressive hearing loss since childhood. Over the years, his hearing gradually deteriorated until he completely lost it in both ears. Despite visiting multiple hospitals, he and his family never received proper guidance on advanced treatment options.
Evaluation and Diagnosis
After a thorough audiological evaluation and diagnostic work-up, I confirmed that his hearing loss was genetically induced and progressive in nature. Standard hearing aids could no longer benefit him, making him a suitable candidate for cochlear implant surgery.
Counselling and Support
During our consultation, I explained to him and his family how cochlear implants could restore access to sound and speech perception, opening new possibilities for communication, education, and career growth. It was a deeply emotional moment, as the family realized that a solution finally existed after years of uncertainty.

One of the biggest challenges patients face is the cost of cochlear implant surgery. To ensure this young man does not miss the opportunity, we are helping his family apply for financial support through the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
